The Australian cheese making industry has once again been recognised in internationally as being the cream of the crop. The 2008 World Championship Cheese prize recently awarded two Australian cheese producers as the best in their class.

Best Parmesan went to the Simpson Grana Team from Australian Co-Operative Foods for their Mil Lel Superior Parmesan.

Best Camembert went to the Burnie Team from National Foods Ltd for their Tasmanian Heritage Traditional Camembert. The same team was also awarded second in that class for their Tasmanian Heritage Signature Camembert.

The Awards were held by the Wisconsin Cheese Makers Association in Madison, Wisconsin, USA from 11-13 March 2008 and is the world's largest international cheese contest. This was the 27th biennial contest since its inception in 1957. Gold, silver and bronze medals are awarded across 79 cheese and butter classes. In 2006 the contest drew a record-breaking 1,795 entries from 18 nations.

Mil Lel Superior Parmesan is just one of the multi-award winning range from Australia's Dairy Farmers Co-operative. The entire range is created using traditional methods, including hand turning as part of the aging process, in the rural area of Simpson in the state of Victoria amongst some of Australia's finest dairy country. The others include Romantina, Chilli Romantina, Pepato and Romano.

Mil Lel Superior Parmesan is no stranger to awards both domestic and abroad with a steady stream of accolades for more than a decade including Gold at last year's Dairy Industry of Australia Awards. Mil Lel Superior Romano also recently won the prestigious Australian Grand Dairy Award for Champion Hard Cheese for the second year in a row.

The whole Mil Lel Superior range is available from fine distributors throughout the US. For further information contact Jana Foods

Tasmanian Heritage cheeses are made from the freshest Tasmanian ingredients using Australian products and derived from European cheese making technologies. They use full-cream milk and their cheeses are crafted by many second and third generation cheese makers. Tasmania’s unspoiled environment and stable, temperate climate lend themselves to the production of the finest quality dairy products. Tasmanian Heritage also produces Brie, Blue and Swiss cheeses.

National Foods was created in 1991 with the merger of several dairy and food businesses. National Foods products include PURA, Berri, Yoplait, Tasmanian Heritage, King Island Diary, Farmers Union, BIG M, and Masters

King Island Dairy is also an internationally renowned award winning cheese producer. Produced exclusively on Bass Strait's most remote island, their dairy products are made with pure sweet King Island milk, produced from the herds which graze on some of the most lush and cleanest pastures in the world. Products are handcrafted with a supreme quality, taste and texture

With a legacy spanning more than 100 years, King Island Dairy is Australia's premier specialty cheese and dairy producer with a range that includes bries, earthy washed rinds, blues, sharp biting aged cheddars, pure creams, yoghurts and desserts.

King Island is one of the few areas in Australia and indeed the world, where cows graze all year round. As a result, the cow's milk is highly desirable for cheese production and consequently, the King Island Dairy is internationally recognised for its award winning, premium produce.

King Island Dairy's recognition at some of the world's most prestigious dairy awards include success at the New York Fancy Food Show, the World Championship Cheese Contest (Wisconsin, USA), the Annual British Empire Cheese Show (Ontario, Canada), the Australian Grand Dairy Awards and the Australian Specialist Cheesemakers' Association Shows.
